What is a word you feel that too many people use?
I don’t think there’s any word that would stand up for an audience as big as mine. That’s because most of you aren’t in the United States. We of the US are fond of hyperbole. Everything is awesome. But I don’t know that everything is awesome in Scotland and India.
What would it mean for everything to truly be awesome? What would that even look like? We use it for everything from Skittles to God.
God I can understand. Skittles? Not so much.
I think it’s good that Americans have adjusted their expectations so that smaller things make them ridiculously happy, but as a wordsmith it is frustrating because some things deserve that word and some don’t…… but you’ve already used the word “awesome” six times.
I use the word “wordsmith” a lot, but not too many people use it.
I have come to the decision that everyone should write, even if they think they’re terrible at it. You don’t write to be published, you write to be understood. You could be like me and the rest of the OG blogging crew (me, Dooce, Ernie, Wil, Mrs. Kennedy, Anil) and be understood by hundreds of people every day (millions over the years- I started in 2003). Or you could be an audience of one. It’s a spectrum.
What I know to be true beyond anything else is that no offense, none of you matter. I mean, you do. That sounded horrible. 😉 What I mean is that if you guys weren’t here, I’d still be trying to wordsmith my way around something.
Ok, now maybe I realize I use “wordsmith” too much.
But it’s so awesome.
