I am way too busy taking care of my own schedule to think about a pet. Therefore, I cannot tell you about any of mine. But my creative partner, Tiina, has a mess of them and she does not mind if I disappear into the backyard and take weeds to the goats. The animals are not generally as excited about being hugged as I am, and genuinely do not know what to do.The goats don’t do it so naturally, anyway. They do love me, but I do not think I will experience an embrace any time soon.
But the hugging is mostly Maclaren. He’s a Frenchie and built to curl up on my lap and gum my arm. If I am ever in need of a job, I think there is a future for me in “human dog toy.”
Yesterday I had the farm to myself because Tiina and Brian were at the hospital and the kids weren’t home from doing virtual school yet (they go to a family friend’s house because Brian and Tiina work from home). If you are just joining us, we have been on Baby Watch for several weeks and the baby was born yesterday. All of the worry paid off because things were smooth as silk around here.
But when the adrenaline of the drive wore off, I had time to kill before I had to be “on.” I went and took some pictures of the animals and introduced myself to the pigs. I get sick to my stomach at bad smells, so it was a dicey meetcute.
But the best part of the day was Brian walking through the door and giving me a bear hug, saying “thanks for helping it all happen around here.” And I can’t talk about what happened when I saw Tiina. There aren’t any words. The new grandma glow is blinding. She’s beautiful, and trying to express my feelings just makes it less powerful because I’m inadequate at describing mystery. Tiina looks different than the last time I saw her, and it is because she is wearing joy.
