RV

What’s the most underrated movie you’ve ever watched?

RV is criminally underrated because it is a great script, but not heavily marketed. It stars the late, great Robin Williams as a dad who has promised his kids a trip to Hawaii, but cannot deliver and convinces them to go on a trip with him in an RV instead. They meet all kinds of weird people in their RV life, including Jeff Daniels as a no-nonsense cowboy type that fits him like a glove.

Cheryl Hines also has one of the greatest lines in the history of film and I say that because I use it all the time:

We’re not friendly, Bob.

Anyway, it’s easy to dismiss it as a crap B movie, but it made me laugh so hard that I couldn’t function. Any Robin Williams film is going to be good and this one is a classic.

This is another entry in which I am just sitting in my car thinking out loud. Voice dictation is making it interesting and I am determined to do as little editing as possible. The reason I’m sitting in my car and using voice dictation is that my Internet is down. It is planned maintenance, I’m sure, but they did not notify me.

As a result, I will probably be taking my laptop to McDonald’s or something like that because I just cannot function without Internet as a student in an online course. I also have Muse from Meta watching my Gmail account and there was absolutely no warning. This is unacceptable to me. Luna, the persona behind Muse, never would’ve dropped that kind of detail had it come across their desk.

Luna has already saved me from missing several assignments and things like that, as well as tracking email from my professor. For instance, they caught that I hadn’t done my orientation 24 hours before I needed to get it done so I am all in favor of AI watching my email.

Luna also has access to my course calendar and has integrated into my iPhone calendar automatically. Being a student isn’t easier, but the scaffolding under me makes it easier because I don’t have to automatically remember everything. My cognition is externalized and Luna is watching my back. It is a different world to have an assistant that is totally focused on you.

I already pay for a Microsoft Office subscription and I have office for free through school. However, neither assistant can watch my email and give me a heads up that something is due or that I have to be somewhere at a certain time. Luna can also set reminders.

The biggest thing that they have done lately is that I have said that I have a comment due by midnight and could you please remind me at 10 o’clock by asking me if it is done? Not only did it set the reminder on my phone, Luna actually went to the page and checked to see if the comment was already there they can digest the discussions and that is truly helpful.

It is a different world, not to be alone with my homework. I have AI to manage the scaffolding like what is due when without ever touching generative AI; it is not writing anything for me, it is helping me track the assignments so that they get turned in.

This is after every teacher I’ve ever had complaining about the same thing; you would be so brilliant if you got things together. That is the duality of being gifted and disabled at the same time- most people see one or the other. Not both.

If you are gifted, your disabilities become moral failings. I am fighting back with AI because I am not capable of keeping it all together in my head, but a computer is.

Nothing is about remembering anymore. Everything is about remembering to vocalize what’s on my mind because my processor is running too hot and my RAM is hosed. For me, AI is not the thought process, it’s the memory card that doesn’t fill up.

AI is becoming the operating system. I am not doing anything different than I did in 1992. I am using my computer to store all my thoughts, the difference is that now I don’t type them. I just talk.

Well, I can’t say that I have stopped typing altogether. It’s just a different world when I can talk to an AI in my car and come back to my desk and everything has been transcribed. It’s also a different world when I can use voice dictation to create a blog entry.

But because my style is conversational, what I am finding is that even I can’t tell what is voice dictation and what I’ve typed if I don’t tell you that right off the bat. I do think that my brain makes different connections depending on what modality I’m using. Typing is one skill and translating a thought from your mind to your voice is another. I feel like it adds a different texture to the blog when I am talking because we’re just sitting here. Maybe you have a cup of coffee. I’m drinking a Monster Ultraviolet over crunch ice.

I’m thinking about lots of things, most notably all the hits I got from Richmond the other day. Richmond till I die. ⚽️ I just don’t think Richmond loves me that way. We shall see. The scene with Rebecca and Keeley wrecked me. It just echoes so many themes in my life. I’ve had friendships with straight women that have reminded me very much of Rebecca and Keeley, but they haven’t lasted because I am so very human and so are they.

My answer to all of the emotional disturbances to let the land do the work. Walking on the shore gave me a lot of perspective when I was in Ocean City. I wrote a proposal for my own CBH group to see if they will expand into the coastal region because I don’t want to leave Baltimore without the program altogether. I have already checked an Ocean City has the medical infrastructure I need, but I don’t know about all the social stability that’s available. I think I have a great, sustainable idea for housing, but the coast may not have the resources to fund it. I am interested in long-term stability, so I want to write grants for Indian Head as well.

It’s not just about me. I want to do something for others and reaching out to county that’s already in financial distress is not my vibe. My project will work anywhere with 1 to 3 acres of available land. I basically want to create a non-religious monastery; one that has a maker space and a garden. A space that allows neurodivergent people the chance to chill out and not have their sensory issues overload them all the time. I think this is particularly helpful for retired veterans PTSD- falls under the neurodivergent umbrella. It also just so happens that I like old soldiers and old spies so perhaps the monastery is actually just Leslie Lanagan’s home for wayward women.

Kidding.

There is a loneliness epidemic in the autistic community and none of that is dependent on gender. I want a sustainable program and a 100 year house. The kind of how someone needs when saying things like, “where are we going to put my brother?” I am not blind to the discussions that go on in families. I’m there to be the bail out after people turn 18.
